Hinkley Mr and Mrs Harry Wall were dinner guests to and insisted that all of us must dine with them at 6 P.M. already full of Hinkley food we thought it impossible, but had to go. I believe it is a French style (partially at least) of architecture, not at all pretty from the village, but more attractive as you get nearer on a level with it. The steep sloping hillside is terraced and covered with verbenas, daisies and altogether some five hundred (odd) species of the flower kingdom in the seven acres. 35 more acres are to be added and planted with reg geraniums as a memorial to the late Pres. One of the prettiest we have seen. The front door opens into the museum which is filled with souvenirs of that martyred president. Abraham Lincoln, Mrs Lincoln and other members of the family are buried in the read of the museum. You look into the mausoleum thru a wrought iron door in the rear. There were fresh flowers and many everlasting ones from various notables. One from President Coolidge. Three sons were born to Mr and Mrs Lincoln here, one of whom died in childhood. The lady who opened the door for us is a niece of Mrs Lincoln. Her mother was a sister of the latter. Many articles of furniture and bric-a-brac belonged to the Lincolns, this quite a lot of the furnishings belonged to Mrs Lincolns side of the family and of course to the lady who lives there. I especially remember the big old fashioned mahogany, hair cloth corned settee where Abraham courted Mrs Lincoln.
